Transforming EI with Indigenous peoples
We're collaborating with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples to learn about their experiences and improve EI.
2024-06
Project stage:Discovery
We're talking with Indigenous peoples who get EI benefits and their advocates to learn about their experiences and improve EI.
About the research
Our team wants to better understand First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples’ experiences in dealing with Employment Insurance (EI). Our goal is to find issues that they might face when applying for and managing their EI benefits and work together to solve them.
Finding issues
We aim to understand the issues that Indigenous peoples might have with EI, such as:
- obstacles finding timely information about EI benefits and how they work, which can lead to missing out on getting the help needed
- difficulty in applying because of unclear language and requirements
- supports that are hard to get, especially in areas with limited in-person services or steady internet
Working together
By working with Indigenous peoples, partners, and communities from all over the country, we’ll help ensure our solutions are:
- adaptable and inclusive to a variety of needs and experiences
- simple and easy to understand
- reliable and transparent across the entire EI process
